artist’s statement

Collage ist nicht nur eine Technik, sondern auch ein philosophischer Zugang an den künstlerischen Prozess. Durch Collage entdecke ich Bedeutungen, die von nur einem der Teile nicht angemessen ausgedrückt werden kann. Das ist so, weil alles in der Welt nur in Beziehung zu anderen Dingen exisitiert.

Indem ich Bilder nebeneinander stelle, kann ich Gegensätze zeitgleich betrachten: Kunst und Pop Kultur, Ost und West, Text und Bild, Darstellung und Abstraktion; das Künstliche und Todernste existieren nebeneinander. Sogar meine Titel sind sprachliche Mischformen; erfundene Worte, die aus Teilen verschiedener Sprachen und Wurzeln bestehen.

Ich verarbeite Materialien, die hergestellt wurden und solche, die aus der Natur kommen. Gefundene und erfundene Bilder dienen als Zeichen sowohl der indiviudellen als auch der kollektiven Erfahrung.

Es ist mir wichtig, dass in meiner Arbeit der Wert der traditionellen „schönen Kunst“ nicht über den Wert der angewandten Kunst gestellt wird, dass die westlichen Gesellschaften nicht gegenüber den östlichen priviligiert werden, und dass das Handgemalte nicht als „besser“ betwertet wird als die digitale Zeichnung.

Die sich ständig bewegenden Kompositionen meines Werkes sind durchzogen von einer hartnäckigen Sorge über den Zustand unserer Umwelt and globalen Politik als auch meiner tiefgehenden Ambivalenz gegenüber der Technologie. Die Spannung zwischen Ost und West hält an und politische Bündnisse wechseln täglich. In der Zwischenzeit sitzen wir vor einem Computerbildschirm: seine endlos sich wiederholenden Texte und Bilder sind wie das Geriesel auf dem Fernsehschirm, wie Wellen im Meer, wie das Universum, kleine Teile der Wirklichkeit, die vorbeiziehen während wir unserer Vernichtung entgegenlatschen.
